16th Cavalry Battalion

Historical Notes:
This unit was also known as Aiken's 1st Regiment SC Partisan Rangers. They were mustered into Confederate service as the 16th Battalion SC Cavalry July 23, 1862 and later merged into the SC 6th Cavalry Regiment. Officers:
Colonel Hugh K. Aiken, Lieutenant Colonel Lovick P. Miller, and Major T.B. Ferguson. Roster:
No roster of this battalion has been found.

  • Company A - (also known as the Carolina Guerrillas and Captain M.A. Sullivan's Company) -men from Laurens District (County), Greenville District (County), Pickens District (County), Abbeville District (County) and Anderson Districts (County), a few men from Spartanburg District (County)
  • Company B - (also known as the Edgefield Rangers, the Edgefield Partisan Rangers and Captain Lewis Jones's Company) -many men from Edgefield District (County), a few men from Richland District (County) , Abbeville District (County), Lexington District (County), Marlboro District (County) and Colleton District (County)
  • Company C - (also known as Captain P.W. Goodwyn's Company) - many men from Abbeville District (County) and Fairfield District (County), a few men from Spartanburg District (County), Anderson District (County), Orangeburg District (County) and Laurens District (County)
  • Company D - (also known as Captain W.M. Hale's Company)
  • Company E - (also known as the Laurens Partizans and Captain J.P. Knight's Company) - many men from Laurens District (County) and Spartanburg District (County)
  • Company F - (also known as the Cadet Company, the Cadet Troop, the Cadet Rangers and Captain M.B. Humphrey's Company) - The men were Cadets from throughout the State.
  • Company G - (also known as Captain John R. Miot's Company) - many men from Richland District (County), Abbeville District (County) and Edgefield District (County)
