There are also two rosters of the officers of the Regiment available; one dated December 26, 1861, and the other prepared soon after May 13, 1862, and a regimental return for the year 1861, made up at "Camp Camden," January 17, 1862, and an "Abstract of Paymend 3rd.. Quarter of 1864." There is also a brief "Muster Roll of Steward, Wardmaster Cooks, Nurses, Matrons, and Detached Soldiers, sick, in the Hospital," with a pay roll attached, from April 24, 1861, to January 1, 1862.
The muster roll of May 24, 1861, shows the following horses and equipments of the officers of the Regiment, and the values thereof:
Colonel Kershaw 1 bay horse $175.00 Equipment $40.00 " 1 sorrel " 150.00 " 1 black " 150.00 " 1 black mare 200.00 Major A. D. Goodwyn 1 roan horse $175.00 Equipment $50.00. Capt. W. S. Wood, Quartermaster, 1 gray horse $130.00 Equipment $35.00. Dr. E. A. Salmond, Surgeon, 1 Sorrel horse $225.00. The appraisers were J. S. Richardson, Jr., and W. W. Perryman.
The muster roll of July 1, 1861, contains a valuation of a horse of E. E. Still, Adjutant, at $175.00, and equipment at $75.00, J. J. McKain, A. E. Doby and W. H. Hardy being the appraisers.
The muster roll of October 31, 1862, contains the following "Record of Events."
"The regt participated in the reduction of Harpers Ferry Sept. 13th and was engaged in the Battle of Sharpsburg, Maryland Sept. 17th 1862,"
The muster roll of February 28, 1863, contains the following "Record of Events":
"The 2nd - So. Ca. Regt. has remained in its present Camp near Hamiltons Crossing Va. during the period for which it is now mustered with two exceptions a change of camp from the immediate vicinity of Fredericksburg Va. on the 8th.. Jany 1863 to the present camp. Distance of 5 or 6 miles, and also on two days Picket duty at Falmouth near Fredericksburg Va."
The muster roll of August 31, 1863, contains the following "Record of Events":
"Since last Muster this Regiment has been engaged in the Battle of Gettysburg Penn. in which the Colonel Major & Adjutant was wounded Have retreated from Chambersburg Penn. about two hundred miles from this Camp"
The muster roll of October 31, 1863, gives the following "Record of Events":
"Since last muster this Regt.. was Transferred, about the 9th of Sept.. from the army of No va. (with a portion of Longstreets corps) to E Tennessee. Joined Braggs Army about the 20th of Sept.. and participated in the Battle of Chickamauga with considerable loss in Killed and wounded.
Owing to active operations this Regt was not mustered & Inspected at the proper time this Roll is made as the command stood on the 31st .. day of October 1864--"

Jones E. P., promoted from Lieutenant Colonel, February 1862; retired at the Reorganization, May 13, 1862.
