Historical Notes:
The Louisiana 3rd (Pargoud's) Cavalry Regiment was organized during the winter of 1863-1864 using the 13th Louisiana Cavalry Battalion as its nucleus. The unit skirmished in Louisiana until March, 1864, when it was redesignated the 5th Louisiana Cavalry Regiment. Officers:
Colonel J. Frank Pargoud, Lieutenant Colonel Samuel L. Chambliss, Major R.L. Capers.
