The Siege of Mobile

While the Siege of Mobile officially spanned just 3 weeks from March 25th to April 12, 1865, the story of Mobile's struggle spans the entire 5 years of the war. It was here that the final surrender east of the Mississippi occurred well after Lee's Army in Virginia, and Johnston's Army in North Carolina had surrendered.

From the seizure of the Arsenal at Mount Vernon, on Jan 4, 1861 to the surrender of the Confederate troops on May 4, 1865, most of the 400 conflicts which occurred in Alabama happened in the vicinity of Mobile.

In the overall scope of the war however, Mobile remains largely ignored and unexplored.
