HISTORICAL NOTES:
The Wisconsin 11th Infantry Regiment was organized at Madison, Wis., and mustered in October 18, 1861. Ordered to St. Louis, Mo., November 19, thence to Sulphur Springs and duty there and by detachments along Iron Mountain Railroad until March, 1862.
The Regiment lost during service 6 Officers and 80 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 4 Officers and 253 Enlisted men by disease. Total 373.

Colonel Charles L. Harris
The Regiment's officers included Angus R. McDonald (1832 - 1879) of Mazomanie, Wisconsin, a native of the isle of Eigg in Scotland's Inner Hebrides. At the time of his death, Capt. MacDonald was the last direct descendant of Alasdair Mac Mhaighstir Alasdair (c.1698 - 1770), who is widely considered, along with Sorley MacLean (1911 - 1996), to be one of the two most important writers in the history of Scottish Gaelic literature.
Sgt. Daniel B. Moore of Company E was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for saving Lt. McDonald's life during the Battle of Fort Blakeley on 9 April 1865.
