Historical Notes:
This regiment may have been formed early in 1861 or previously. In Rivers Account of the Raising of the Troops for State and Confederate Service he has the following statement:
The State troops that had been called down to Charleston relieved the militia who had been on duty for four months. These, returning to their homes in the city, began to form new organizations for continued active service.
