4th Regiment, New Jersey Infantry (3 months, 1861)

HISTORICAL NOTES: The 4th Regiment, New Jersey Infantry (3 months), was organized in April 1861. It was mustered into service on April 27, 1861, and mustered out on July 31, 1861, due to the expiration of its term. The regiment saw action during the First Battle of Bull Run in July 1861. The regiment was one of the first New Jersey regiments to see action in the Civil War. OFFICERS: ASSIGNMENTS: The regiment was part of Runyon's New Jersey Brigade, Defenses of Washington, and later attached to the 1st Brigade, Runyon's Reserve Division, McDowell's Army of Northeast Virginia. SERVICE: At Meridian Hill until May 24. Occupation of Arlington Heights, Va., May 24. Construction of Fort Runyon. Duty on line of Alexandria & Loudon Railroad until July 16. Advance on Manassas, Va., July 16-21. Battle of Bull Run July 21 (Reserve). Mustered out July 31, 1861. Expiration of term. ROSTERS:
