HISTORICAL NOTES: The 3rd Regiment, New Jersey Infantry was organized in Trenton, New Jersey in April 1861 and mustered in on April 27, 1861. Men who reenlisted were transferred to the New Jersey 15th Infantry Regiment and served until the end of the war.

  • May 8, 1861: Left New Jersey for Annapolis, Maryland
  • May 5, 1861: Reported to General Butler
  • May 6, 1861: Arrived in Washington, D.C.
  • June, 1861: Attached to Runyon's New Jersey Brigade, Defences of Washington
  • July 16–21, 1861: Advanced on Manassas, Virginia
  • July 21, 1861: Participated in the Battle of Bull Run as a reserve
  • July 31, 1861: Mustered out
  • OFFICERS: ASSIGNMENTS:
  • Attached to Runyon's New Jersey Brigade, Defenses of Washington
  • SERVICE: Duty on line of Alexandria & Loudon Railroad until July 16. Advance on Manassas, Va., July 16-21. Battle of Bull Run July 21 (Reserve). Mustered out July 31, 1861. ROSTERS:
