HISTORICAL NOTES:
The 3rd Missouri Infantry Regiment was formed in the summer of 1861 and mustered into Confederate service in August 1861 under the command of Colonel Thomas C. Stevens.
The regiment participated in several significant battles and campaigns throughout the war. In early 1862, the 3rd Missouri Infantry fought in the Battle of Pea Ridge (also known as the Battle of Elkhorn Tavern) in Arkansas. This battle was a major engagement in the Trans-Mississippi Theater and resulted in a Union victory.
Following the Battle of Pea Ridge, the regiment was involved in various operations and skirmishes in Missouri and Arkansas. They participated in the Battle of Prairie Grove in December 1862, another significant engagement in Arkansas.
In 1863, the 3rd Missouri Infantry Regiment was assigned to General John S. Marmaduke's cavalry division and took part in the raid into Missouri known as Marmaduke's First Raid. They fought in the Battle of Cape Girardeau and the Battle of Chalk Bluff, among other smaller engagements.
The Regiment surrendered with the Confederate forces in June 1865, after General Edmund Kirby Smith's surrender effectively ended the war in the Trans-Mississippi region.
