Maryland 3rd Artillery Battery

HISTORICAL NOTES: The Maryland 3rd Artillery Company was organized at Richmond, Virginia, in January, 1862. Ordered to Knoxville, the unit served in Tennessee and Kentucky, then was assigned to A.W. Reynold's Brigade, Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana. During the spring of 1863 a detachment served on board the Confederate gunboat Queen of the West and suffered many casualties. The remaining part of the battery was captured at Vicksburg . After being exchanged, the officers and men were consolidated with the Stephens Georgia Light Artillery. OFFICERS: Captains Henry B. Latrobe and William L. Ritter. ASSIGNMENTS: A.W. Reynold's Brigade, Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana.
