HISTORICAL NOTES:
The Louisiana 2nd Infantry Regiment [also called Louisiana Zouaves] was formed at Camp Moore in Tangipahoa, Louisiana, during the spring of 1861. Its companies were drawn from De Soto, Natchitoches, Lincoln, St. Landry, Claiborne, Rapides, and Caddo parishes. Ordered to Virginia the unit was assigned to the Department of the Peninsula and in April, 1862 totalled 782 men. Later it was placed in H. Cobb's, Starke's, Nicholl's, Iverson's, Stafford's, and York's Brigade. It fought with the Army of Northern Virginia from the Seven Days' Battles to Cold Harbor , served with Early in the Shenandoah Valley, then was active around Appomattox . The regiment lost 30 killed and 152 wounded at Malvern Hill , had 25 killed and 86 wounded at Second Manassas , and sustained 62 casualties at Sharpsburg . It reported 15 killed and 90 wounded at Chancellorsville , and of the 236 engaged at Gettysburg , twenty-seven percent were disabled. Only 3 officers and 41 men surrendered in April, 1865.
