Lyon's Kentucky Cavalry Brigade (Misc)

Historical Notes:
Hylan B. Lyon's Kentucky Cavalry Brigade was commanded by Brig. Gen. Hylan B. Lyon in 1864–1865 under Nathan B. Forrest. The unit engaged in battles at Harrisburg and participated in the Memphis expedition before merging into the 8th Kentucky Infantry (Mounted) Regiment in March 1865. Known for a winter 1864 raid into Kentucky to disrupt Union operations, the brigade destroyed several courthouses used by Federal troops, including in Princeton and Hopkinsville.

The brigade, often associated with the 12th Kentucky Cavalry Regiment (also known as the 1st Kentucky and Tennessee Regiment), operated largely in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Kentucky. In December 1864, Lyon led 800 men to disrupt Union supply lines and enforce the Confederate draft, ultimately burning seven courthouses used to house Federal troops.

In January 1865, Gen. Lyon was captured by a member of the 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry in Alabama but managed to escape after killing his captor. Roster:
