HISTORICAL NOTES:
The Indiana 54th Infantry Regiment (3 Months Service) regiment was organized as a three months' regiment at Indianapolis and was mustered in June 10, 1862, being placed on duty at Camp Morton. It moved to Kentucky in August to assist in repelling the invasion by Gen. Kirby Smith, and was mustered out in Sept., 1862. Its original strength was 887; gain by recruits, 59; total 946.
Most of the men of this regiment rejoined the 54th (1 year service) and participated in the siege of Vicksburg.
OFFICERS:
Col. Mansfield resigned June 18, David G. Rose succeeding as colonel.

The men in the regiment did not muster out in the same companies that they mustered into (Indiana Adjutant General's Report, Volume 8, Service Volume 7 when mustered in).
