50th Regiment, Indiana Infantry



HISTORICAL NOTES:
The Indiana 50th Infantry regiment was organized at Seymour in Sept., 1861, and was mustered in in October. It left the state Dec. 25, for Bardstown, Ky., and from there it proceeded to Bowling Green, where they were assigned to railroad guard duty in detachments along the Louisville & Nashville road, until Sept., 1862.

The 50th fought throughout the war in the west, primarily in Arkansas and Tennessee. The regiment was captured twice and exchanged. They ended the war with the siege of Mobile.
