HISTORICAL NOTES:
The 29th Indiana Infantry was organized at Laporte, Indiana, and mustered into Federal service on August 27, 1861. The regiment left Indiana on October 9, 1861, joining General Rousseau’s command at Camp Nevin, Kentucky. It was attached to various brigades and divisions within the Army of the Ohio and later the Army of the Cumberland, serving under commanders such as McCook and Rosecrans. The regiment participated in operations in Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia. It reenlisted as a veteran organization on January 1, 1864, at Bridgeport, Alabama, and was mustered out of service on December 2, 1865. During its service, the regiment’s total enrollment reached 2,130 men, including original members, recruits, and reenlistments.
The Regiment lost during service 4 Officers and 56 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 4 Officers and 240 Enlisted men by disease. Total 304.
