Historical Notes HISTORICAL NOTES:
The 32nd Illinois Infantry was Organized at Camp Butler, Ill., and mustered in December 31, 1861. The regiment was mustered out on September 16, 1865, at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

The Regiment lost during service 8 Officers and 90 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 2 Officers and 168 Enlisted men by disease. Total 268.

    Moved from Cairo, Ill., to Bird's Point, Mo., February 2, 1862; thence to Fort Henry, Tenn., February 8-9, and duty there until March 5 (Co. "A" at Fort Donelson, Tenn., February 13-15, and on Expedition to Eastport, Miss. Cos. "C" and "K" on gunboats "Tyler" and "Lexington," February, 1862. Action at Pittsburg Landing March 1.) Regiment moved from Fort Henry to Pittsburg Landing, Tenn., March 5-15. Battle of Shiloh, Tenn., April 6-7. Advance on and siege of Corinth, Miss., April 29-May 30. March to Memphis, Tenn., via Grand Junction, LaGrange, Holly Springs, Moscow and Germantown June 1-July 21, and duty there until September 6. Moved to Bolivar September 6-14, and duty there until October 3. March to relief of Corinth October 3. Battle of Metamora, or Hatchie River, October 5. Grant's Central Mississippi Campaign November 3, 1862, to January 10, 1863. Guard line of Memphis & Charleston R. R. until March 11, 1863. At Memphis, Tenn., until May. Moved to Young's Point, La., thence to Grand Gulf May 11-16, and duty there until June 8. Ordered to Vicksburg, Miss. Siege of Vicksburg, Miss., June 12-July 4. Advance on Jackson, Miss., July 4-10. Siege of Jackson July 10-17. Assault on Jackson July 12. Reconnaissance to Pearl River July 15. At Vicksburg until August 15. Moved to Natchez, Miss., August 15, and duty there until November 24.
