44th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment

HISTORICAL NOTES:
This Unit was organized at Davenport June 1, 1864. It was among scores of regiments that were raised in the summer of 1864 as Hundred Days Men, an effort to augment existing manpower for an all-out push to end the war within 100 days. They were ordered to Memphis, Tennessee, and assigned to guard duty in that district until September, 1864, relieving experienced troops to join Sherman's Atlanta Campaign. They mustered out September 15, 1864.
