27th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment



HISTORICAL NOTES:
The 27th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment was organized at Dubuque and mustered in October 3, 1862. Moved to St. Paul, Minn., October 11, 1862, Companies "A," "B," "C," "E," "F" and "G." As soon as it was mustered in the Regiment was sent north to help deal with the Sioux uprising in Minnesota. Iowa was in the Army's newly formed Department of the Northwest commanded Major General John Pope at Fort Snelling. They moved to Mille Lac's, Minn., October 17, thence moved to Cairo, Ill., November 4. Companies "D," "I," "H" and "K" at Fort Snelling, Minn., until November 1. Moved to Cairo, Ill., November 1. Regiment moved to Memphis, Tenn., November 20.

The 27th mustered out August 8, 1865. The Regiment lost during service 1 Officer and 23 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 2 Officers and 167 Enlisted men by disease. Total 193.
