Georgia 62nd Infantry Regiment


HISTORICAL NOTES:

This regiment was also known as the 2nd Partisan Rangers Regiment and the GA 62nd Cavalry Partisan Rangers. It was formed from 7 Georgia Companies and 3 North Carolina Companies. Men from Georgia were from Dougherty, Liberty, and Baker counties. In DEC 1863, it reported 408 effective men.

Order S. O. # 161, Adjutant and Inspector General's Office split the regiment on 11 JUL 1864, with the Georgia companies going to the 8th Cavalry Regiment, and the 3 North Carolina companies going to the 16th North Carolina Cavalry Battalion. This order was not carried out until about 25 OCT 1864.
