8th Battalion, Confederate Infantry


HISTORICAL NOTES:
The Confederate 8th Infantry Battalion, formerly the 2nd Foreign Infantry Battalion, was organized during the late fall of 1864 with English and French nationals and from prisoners recruited in Florence, South Carolina. It was organized December 26, 1864, as the 2nd Foreign Battalion. It was later known as the 2nd Foreign Legion until it was renamed the 8th Confederate Battalion on February 13, 1865.

The unit served at Charlotte, North Carolina. It was included in the surrender on April 26, 1865.
OFFICERS:
Lieutenant Colonel Garnett Andrews and Major R. I Fouche were in command. ASSIGNMENTS:
