The Civil War in Arkansas

6th Regiment Arkansas Infantry

    The 6th Infantry Regiment was formed at Little Rock, Arkansas, in June, 1861, with 604 men. Its companies were recruited in Little Rock and the counties of Calhoun, Dallas, Ouachita, Arkansas, Lafayette, and Union. The unit fought at Shiloh and Perryville, then served in General Liddell's and Govan's Brigade, Army of Tennessee. In December, 1862, it was consolidated with the 7th Arkansas Regiment. It participated in the campaigns of the army from Murfreesboro to Atlanta, endured Hood's winter operations in Tennessee, and saw action in North Carolina. The 6th/7th lost 28 killed and 140 wounded at Murfreesboro, had 16 disabled at Ringgold Gap, totalled 314 men and 265 arms in December, 1863, and sustained 66 casualties at the Battle of Atlanta. Few surrendered in April, 1865.
