STEADFAST TO THE LASTRandolph W. Kirkland 212 pgs. |
|
Steadfast to the Last is an alphabetical listing of over 9,000 South Carolinians who surrendered at the end of the War, indicating the rank and unit of the individuals.
The men who surrendered at Appomattox has been published for well over a hundred years, but those who surrendered in North Carolina have been essentially unknown until now. As a companion volume to Broken Fortunes and Dark Hours, this volume represents the culmination of Mr. Kirkland's life-long study of South Carolina men in the War.
Mr. Kirkland compiled this list from official sources and the bibliography alone is worth the price of the book.
An account of the surrender at Appomattox by an eye witness is included as well as other appendices.
