Herbert's Battalion

HISTORICAL NOTES
Herbert's Battalion was the only officially recognized Arizona Territory military unit raised for service in the Confederate Army. It was known by several names throughout its career; Herbert's Battalion, the Arizona Battalion, and later the Arizona Scouts. It's history is interwoven with the Texas Baylor's Cavalry Regiment and is treated in the Historical Sketch and Roster of The Texas Baylor's Cavalry Regiment.

Three companies served as the nucleous of the Arizona Battalion. Research may center around the separate companies in the New Mexico Campaign under commands of George M. Frazer, Sherod Hunter and Thomas Helm, These men served through the end of the war surrendering with the Trans-Mississippi forces in Texas in May of 1865.
