24th Regiment, Arkansas Infantry

HISTORICAL NOTES:
The Arkansas 24th Infantry Regiment was organized during the spring of 1862 and after being involved in the fight of Arkansas Post, moved east of the Mississippi River. The regiment was assigned to Deshler's, Liddell's, and Govan's Brigade, and in September, 1863, consolidated with the 19th (Dawson's) Regiment and in December with the 2nd and 15th (Cleburne's-Polk's-Josey's) Regiments. It served with the Army of Tennessee from Chickamauga to Atlanta, fought with Hood in Tennessee, and ended the war in North Carolina. The 19th/24th lost thirty-eight percent of the 226 engaged at Chickamauga, and the 2nd/15th/24th totalled 295 men and 202 arms in December, 1863. During the spring of 1864 part of the 24th served in Dawson's Regiment in the Trans-Mississippi Department. At the Battle of Atlanta only the 2nd and 24th were united, and this command sustained 130 casualties. Very few surrendered in April, 1865. OFFICERS:
