HISTORICAL NOTES:
The 23rd Arkansas Cavalry was actually the 23rd Arkansas Infantry Regiment which was later mounted and served as cavalry (Lyle's Mounted Volunteers) during the Civil War, fighting in key battles like Corinth, Port Hudson, and Price's Missouri Raid, known for its participation in major campaigns and eventual surrender near Memphis. Organized in 1862, its soldiers came from several counties, and after being captured and exchanged, a portion of the regiment was mounted, taking on cavalry duties with significant engagements in late 1864 and 1865 before disbanding.
