Historical Notes:
This battery was organized for State service May 15, 1861, and mustered into Confederate service August 12, 1861. The place of organization is not known, as there is no muster roll on file, and the only records are from prisoner of war and parole records.
This unit was attached to Col. A. Jackson, Jr.'s and Lt. Col. R. Sterling's 1st Tennessee Heavy Artillery, of Col. Edward Higgins' River Defense Batteries, Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton's Army of Vicksburg, and commanded by Capt. J. B. Caruthers.
This roster represents the company at Vicksburg. Some of the men may later appear in the Tennessee 1st Heavy Artillery for the Atlanta Campaign and later.
