Three rosters of the 1st Regiment are also available: One prepared the latter part of 1863, one dated August 9, 1864, and a third prepared in October, 1864. From these muster rolls and rosters the following roster of the field and staff of the regiment has been compiled.
Only four of these men were present at the Appomattox surrender. In the biographical sketch of Gen. Hagood, mention is made of surrender of the regiment at Bentonville, NC, so the regiment must have become separated towards the end of the war.
COLONELS
Glover, Thomas Jamison (born July 30, 1830) - promoted from Lieutenant Colonel, July 12, 1862; mortally wounded at Second Manassas, August 29, 1862, dying August 31, 1862. In his Memoirs (MS.) Col. James R. Hagood gives, from the Surgeon's report, the following description of his wounds: "Received flesh wound below right knee early in action but refused to leave the field. Later in the day was shot down by minie ball, entering right Hiac region and passing obliquely through abdomen. In removing him from the field he received another ball in the calf of right leg. Became insensible in five hours and died in 18 hours after."
Duncan, William H. - acted as Colonel from September 1, 1862, to January 10, 1863, under an order from Brigadier General Jenkins promoting him to Colonel, but the War Department did not act upon the promotion; resigned his commission as Lieutenant Colonel, January 10, 1863.
Kilpatrick, F. Whitner - appointed January 31, 1863; reported on muster roll of August 31, 1863, as absent with leave since August 23, 1863; killed in action, October 28, 1863.
Hagood, James Robert (born November 15, 1844) - appointed from Captain of Company K, November 16, 1863; reported on muster roll of Company K of December 31, 1863; as sick, at hospital, since November 5, 1863; paroled at Appomattox Court House, Va., April 10, 1865. Parole in the hands of David Harper Means, his nephew, Columbia, S. C.

Livingston, Daniel - promoted from Major, September 1, 1862; reported on muster roll of December 31, 1863, as absent sick, since October 8, 1863; resigned March 19, 1864. He was promoted upon the order of Brigadier General Jenkins but the promotion was not acted upon by the War Department until January, 1863, when, Lieutenant Colonel Duncan, acting Colonel, having resigned, he became Lieutenant Colonel.
