Hon'ble James Lawrence Orr, Minister residence at Court of St. Petersburg Russia, died suddenly Ap'l 23, 1873 (May 5th) aged 51 years. He was born at Craytonsville, Anderson District, So. Ca. May 12, 1822. Judge Orr will fill no inconsiderable portion of his country's history, if a memoir of his life shall be written He was a distinguished man in South Carolina, the Congerss of the United States, and in the Congress of the Confederacy. His remains were brought, or sent from Russia to the City of New York, where there was a great Pageant on the occasion. They were then sent to South Carolina, where there was another display and curiosity exhibited ...forwarded the body to Anderson Court House, in which place it was buried, June 19, 1873.
James was one of the signers of The Ordinance of Secession. He was elected commissioner from the state of South Carolina and
sent to Washington, DC as an emmisary of the state in 1861.
