Major C. D. Melton died in Col'a So. Ca. December 4th 1875, in the 56th year of his age, after a protracted illness of several months. The writer did not personally know the deceased, but attaches to this record, notices of his decese [sic] from the Columbia Register of the 15th Dec'r 1875. [clipping] "Death of Major C. D. Melton... at his residence, in this city, at 11 o'clock A. M., yesterday, in the 56th year of his age.... Major Melton was born in Yorkville, December 17, 1819. His father was for many years postmaster at that place; his mother was a sister of Rev. Cyrus Davis, a preacher, eminent in that section of the county for his piety, learning, and eloquence....
