Darling served in the SC 20th Infantry Regiment, Company I. His name does not appear on Thomas' roster. He enlisted May l,1862 at Sullivans Island, S.C. He was held prisoner and paroled May 18th 1865 at Bennets House between Gen. J.E. Johnson and M. Gen W.T. Sherman an approved by Ge, U.S. Grant.
