Huiett, Colonel John
Huiett, George David
An email from his ggrandaughter (Kay Phillips) indicates the name is spelled with one t - HUIET. She also made reference to some of the Huietts being absent without leave, but it is unclear who she was referring to.
REF: Caldwell - History of Edgefield County pg. 77
Colonel John Huiett was major during the service of the South Carolina Volunteers in the war in Florida. He was afterwards elected to the legislature. He died in Augusta, GA.
George D. was the brother of Colonel John Huiett. I have head mentioned that he was one of the best men who ever lived in Edgefield. He was industrious, honest and pious. If I am not mistaken he served a term of six months as an officer in the Second Regiment of State troops commanded by Colonel William Fort, attached to the Brigade of General Walker, stationed at Pocotaligo in 1863-64. He died a few years ago - (I write this September, 1891,) on the place where he was born in Huiett township.
