Mr's F. W. Green, wife of Dr. F. W. Green, died in Columbia So. Ca. Jan'y 26th 1874. She was a most estimable lady, and had resided in Columbia for many, very many years.... Attached is an obituary notice from the Columbia Phoenix, 27th Jan'y, which is more in detail.... "Another one of our old citizens has been called home. Mrs. Sarah Green, consort of Dr. F. W. Green, departed this life on Saturday night, from a paralytic affection.... Mrs. G. was the eldest daughter of William Briggs, Esq., (the builder of the bridge which formerly spanned Saluda and Congaree Rivers.) The deceased had reached the age of sixty-three. She was born in Jenkintonwn, near Philadelphia, Pa., on the 9th August, 1811; was married in this city, July 31, 1828, and lived on the same spot during the entire term of her wedded life fifty-six years. She has seven sons and two daughters living. Five of her boys served in the Confederate army -one of them yielding up his life to the cause. We extend our earnest sympathies to the bereaved family - husband, sons, daughters, sister, brothers ...."
