Benjamin was from Greenville County. He served in the 16th South Carolina Volunteer Infantry - Co. D. He is buried in the Trinity Church Cemetery in Columbia, SC.
Lieutenant Benj'n Gibbes, son of Dr. B. W. Gibbes Senr., was buried in Cola So. Ca. Mar. 14, 1864.
Dr. R. W. Gibbes Jr. died in Col'a So. Ca. September 23d 1875. He was one of the most distinguished physicians of Coiumbia; was a most amiable man in his family.... A very just and sympathising In Memoriam from The Columbia Register is hereunto attached. [clipping] "Robert Wilson Gibbes, M. D., was the second son of Dr. R. W. Gibbes, who was equally distinguished for eminence in the medical profession. He was born in Columbia June 10, 1831. He was graduated in the South Carolina College in December 1849....
