George enlisted as a 3rd Sergeant in the SC 1st Infantry Regiment (Hagood's) at Summerville on 20 JUL 1861. He was promoted by appointment, from 3rd Sergeant to 1st Sergeant October 1, 1861, he having been acting as 1st Sergeant previously to that date; reported on muster roll of December 31, 1861, as "absent on sick leave"; reported on muster roll of February 28, 1862, as present; on muster roll of April 12, 1862. At the reorganization in June he joined the SC 25th Infantry Regiment, Company G as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was killed in action 16 MAY 1864 at Drury's Bluff, VA. A monument is located in the Old Pioneer Cemetery located on the Salley Archives grounds.
