The Mississippi 2nd Cavalry Battalion ~ Martin's was organized Oct. 24, 1861 at Manassas, VA, with 3 Mississippi companies and 1 Alabama company, Maj. William T. Martin; designated Jeff Davis Legion late 1861 after adding 1 Georgia and 1 Alabama company; increased to regiment July 11, 1864 with addition of 4 more non-Mississippi companies; surrendered April 26, 1865.
