Historical Notes:
The Mississippi 1st Infantry Regiment was organized in the summer of 1861 as a Battalion by Maj. Andrew K. Blythe and increased to regiment in the fall 1861. The Mississippi 44th Infantry Regiment was organized from the 1st (Blythe's) Mississippi Infantry Battalion.
