Also Known As: 1st [Mississippi] Cavalry Regiment; W. Adams' Confederate Cavalry Regiment; Wood's Confederate Cavalry Regiment

Organization: Organized for the war on October 15, 1861. 1st Company G became independent in April 1862. Company N became 2nd Company G sometime after April 162. 1st Company A became an independent unit in April 1862. Companies C, 1st D, and 1st M, were detached on May 16, 1862 and became Companies A, E, and B, respectively, 3rd Alabama Cavalry Regiment on July 1, 1862. 2nd Company M was organized on May 3, 1862 and was subsequently assigned to this regiment. 1st Company A became Company A, 15th Louisiana Cavalry Battalion on September 26, 1862. 2nd Company A was organized from a part of Company K on May 1, 1864. Surrendered by Lieutenant [General] Richard Taylor, commanding the Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana, at Citronelle, Alabama on May 4, 1865.
