Following the war he moved to Florida and married Ada Smailes. A pension application was filed in Polk County in 1907. He died 22 JUL 1925 and is buried in Lakeland, Florida.

James was born 13 SEP 1842 in Virginia. When war threatened he joined a company in 1861 which was reorganized into the VA 50th Infantry Regiment in 1862. He later transferred to the Confederate States Navy.
