Historical Notes:
The South Carolina Hampton's Legion Cavalry Battalion was formed in the summer of 1861. Following the Seven Days battles in June 1862 the battalion became a part of the SC 2nd Cavalry Regiment. The men continued to refer to themselves as Hampton's Legion Cavalry long after the war.

*Well's biography of Hampton lists McFie as having an original company of the Hampton Legion Mounted Unit, as well as Meighan. This unit is seen designated both B and D.
