The South Carolina 12th Cavalry Battalion was organized in the Spring of 1862 with an initial strength of four companies; consolidated with the 10th South Carolina Cavalry Battalion on 16 December 1862 and redesignated the 4th South Carolina Cavalry Regiment. Officers:
