Historical Notes:
Marion Light Artillery was organized during the summer of 1861. Most of its members were from Marion, South Carolina. During January, 1865, it was assigned to A. Rhett's Brigade. Ended the war in North Carolina.
This company is a part of the 1st Regiment, South Carolina Artillery (Militia). This battery was one of four sent to occupy Fort Moultrie on Sullivan's Island on 27 December 1860. It was transferred to Confederate service in August 1861.
This was a part of the 1st Militia Artillery Regiment which was evidently separate from the SC 1st Artillery Regiment, although they shared common service. The 1st Artillery Regiment roster contains over 3,000 names however, so the two may be combined. Further research will be required on these units.
