South Carolina 4th State Troops 6 months 1863-64 (Infantry)

Historical Notes:
The South Carolina 4th Infantry Regiment State Troops was organized in state service to date from August 1,1863. There were 4 regiments formed with one company from each county. These units consisted of young boys and old men – all that was left in the state, and all other eligible men were already in service.

These 4 regiments functioned pretty much together as a brigade. Companies were detached, troops constantly being detached and it appears highly likely that many of the companies were absorbed into depleted SC CSA units at the end of 1864 and again in the Spring of 1865 although the 4th regiment was officially disbanded on February 1, 1864.
