Historical Notes:
This company joined for duty and was enrolled in Spartanburg District,
April 13, 1861, and was mustered into Confederate service at Orangeburgh,
by Barnard E. Bee (in Salley's book as B. E. Lee), Lieutenant Colonel,
S. C. I., Mustering Officer, June 4, 1861.
The following muster rolls of the company are available and from them
the succeeding roster thereof has been compiled: May 31, 1861; June 4,
1861 (mustering in roll); June 30, 1861, Camp Walker, Va., received at
Adjutant General's Office, Richmond, August 20, 1861; August 31, 1861,
near Germantown, Va.; October 31, 1861; "Camp near M'Leanes Farm", Va.;
December 31, 1861, Centreville, Va.
The following "Record of Events" is given on the muster roll of June
30, 1861:
Mustered in the service of th Confedereat States by Col. Bee on the
4th of June at Orangeburg C H S C on the 5th we left ofr Richmond Va
and arrived at that place on the 10th and encamped at Camp Davis until
the 20th we then left for Manassas JUnction and arrived there on the
21st June and encamped at Camp Walker near that Place until the present
time nothing else of interest occurred the month worthy of note.

The following "Record of Events" is given on the muster roll of August
31, 1861:
Left Camp Walker near Manassas Juncion on the (several words obliterated
by repair tape) the 17th July, by order Gen. Jones. Advanded to Bull
Run where the Regiment Bivouacked. On (tape) July, ordered to attack
a Battery on the Enemy's (tape) one man killed and Two wounded. Returned
to Bull Run same evening and again bivouacked, on (tape) advanced to
Farifax Station encamped for the night and moved to Camp Pettus after
dawn of the following day. On 12th August again advanced to Germantown
where the Regiment Encamped.
The following "Record of Events" is given on the muster roll of October
31, 1861:
Remained in Camp near Germantown from the 31st of august to the
4th of October. Left Camp the 3rd of September for Great Falls -
accompanied by a Detachment of the Washington Artillery and a company
(Floods) of Cavalry - On the morning of the following day. Company
placed as Guard at Difficult Bridges on Leesburg and Georgetown turnpike.
Lifted the Hawking on the Barricaded and otherwise obstructed the
passage of the Ford, so as to prevent the advance of the Enemy, whilst
the Artillery were Bombarding a postion on the Enemy on the opposite side
of the Potomac at a point about two miles higher up. Returned same day
in good order to Camp Germantown, after a march of 42 miles. On 21st
ordered for Picquet duty to Upton Hill, left on the night of the 28th,
moved our encampment near Fairfax C. H. on the 4th of October. The 12th
ordered on picket at Mills Cross Roads returned to camp the 15th and
changed camp to McLaines Ford the 16th - on the 22nd ordered to Leasburg
to reinforce Gen. Evans on the 28th Returned to near McLaines Ford.
