It is in the hands of Private Bellot's family at Wannee, Florida: Camp near Fredericksburg Dec 11th 1862 My dear Bellot I got you letter some days ago & am glad to see by it that you spirits are better kept up than you body --I hope however that the latter will catch up in due time. Take care of yourself & don't practice that singular half-hammond of your's too much at first -- with patience I dare say you may equal old Dick Yeadon's celebrated feat in that way. I was much surprised to hear from you that your brother Louis was not at home. I sent him a descriptive list to Lynchburg whence I thought he would start immediately for home -- I hope he has arrived though by this time however & that you make pair of merry cripples together. I send you a "Descriptive list," in case you have not got your pay otherwise. I hope speaking more serviously that your wound will in time allow a full return of your strength and activity. It is a severe trial to be bound by an infirmity, at our time of life -- I trust that if this is your case you may receive strength to bear it well & in the right spirit. The loss of the comp: so far has been 12 from battle 8 fr: sickness I am sorry to say that poor old Grant is among the first he died of his wounds at Warrenton. Of Godley too I have apprehensions -- if they are realized it will add one to the above number. We have been disturbed this morning by a furious cannonade toward Fredericksburg commencing before day the musketry also has been heavy. I estimate the reports of artillery at full 3500. It is now 12 m. & all sounds of Battle & have almost subsided. How soon they may recommence I know not. We are cocked & primed ready to march at a moments notice. The Brigade is encamped just where Gen'l Gregg was last spring about a mile from our old camp -- I walked over there last evening wiht Alic & looked at they old place -- looked down Co "Es" old well & recongnized every tree & spot by some association with some on of the Comp -- too often some one who shall join the ranks of Co: H no more. Tomorrow is my birthday I dare say we may celebrate it with a battle -- if we do I am sanguine of success. Our army is stronger in efficient numbers than ever before & composed of men who have learned their business by victories, we meet a raw or well drubbed enemy. If my part of the army dois as well as hitherto we will do well. The Co did spendidly at Manassas & also at Sharpsburg & we marched from Winchester here on twelve successive days with a single straggler. We have had a good deal of "snow & that sort of thing" & no tents -- but it takes a good deal to hurt this army. Remember me to yr brother & write again. Yrs. very truly W. T.
