Funkstown

There is some confusion regarding the disposition of the 28th during the summer of 1863. Gen. D. H. Hill's command of which the 28th was a part was transferred to the Department of North Carolina, then to Charleston and Gen. Colquitt is listed in the commands at Charleston, but we have a note that the 28th was assigned picket duty in the rear of Lee's army during the Gettysburg Campaign and one man, Thomas Mills of Company B in the 28th was killed in a minor skirmish at Funkstown, MD on July 7th, 1863.
