Col. H. P. Lamson, commanding the brigade, reported that as the command was about to go into camp at Red Clay, while on its march from Cleveland, a scout of the 1st Wis. cavalry was killed by a shot from a small party in ambush, being at the time a short distance in advance with a few of his comrades.
