Historical Notes:
The Mississippi 17th Cavalry Battalion was formed during the early spring of 1863 with two companies, later increased to seven. The unit served in the Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, then merged into the 9th Mississippi Cavalry Regiment. Officers:
