Atwood, George E. (?? - 21 MAY 1914)
Pension Application filed 1 NOV 1919 by Mrs. Sophie L. Atwood, wife of George E. Atwood. She stated that she had been a resident of Georgia for 69 years and that she married George in July 1870. George served in the 5th Georgia Militia State Troops Company H. Application witnessed by T. B. Meriwether. And Wm. C. Wylly. T. B. stated that he had known George 56 years or 51 till his death. In his testimony he states that George Atwood was detailed to guard a ferry on the Oconee River, thus not with the command at the surrender in Milledgeville on 26 APR, 1865. Wm. C. Wylly stated that he knew George all his life and that they were raised up near Warthen? His signature looks like Wytty with the t's crossed.
