Connecticut played a relatively small, but important role in the War, providing arms, equipment, money, supplies, and manpower for the Union Army, as well as the Union Navy. It was the home of Harriet Beecher Stowe whose fiction novel, "Uncle Tom's Cabin" played a key role in the Abolitionist movement and it was also a key state in the Underground Railroad.
