Sketches of Pitt County, North Carolina

by Henry Thomas King

This history of Pitt County (formed in 1760 from Beaufort County) is the result of significant research over a period of many years. The author consulted such primary sources as the Colonial Records of North Carolina, edited by William L. Saunders and the State Records of North Carolina, edited by Walter Clark, as well as county records. He also interviewed local citizens. Following a roughly chronological outline, the book emphasizes political developments and economic conditions. It contains biographical sketches of prominent historical and contemporary men and women (some with portraits), photographs of historic sites, and maps.
